Hawke's Bay's outstanding year in the Air New Zealand Cup looks set to pay dividends for a number of players when the Super 14 squads are announced today.
Up to seven Magpies are expected to be spread across the Super 14 franchises when the 2008 rosters are revealed.
Sources in the capital for yesterday's draft suggest the Bay's big season has earned skipper Danny Lee and lock Bryn Evans a call-up for the Blues, following the retirement of Steve Devine and the departure of Ali Williams.
Winger Zac Guildford, hooker Hika Elliot and flanker Michael Johnson are tipped to make the Hurricanes squad with number eight George Naoupu in the franchise's wider training group.
Prop Clint Newland is also likely to shore up the Highlanders' front row stocks, despite missing almost the entire Air New Zealand Cup after his king-hit on Neemia Tialata, while Ben Batger has already been confirmed in the Waratahs squad across the Tasman.
