KEY POINTS:
Lions 9 Crusaders 3
The Lions claimed a second New Zealand Super 14 rugby scalp in consecutive weekends when they beat the defending champions Crusaders 9-3 at Ellis Park, Johannesburg, today (NZ time).
Lions first five-eighth Louis Strydom kicked three penalties from four and his Crusaders counterpart Stephen Brett managed one from two in the tryless, error-ridden but fierce match.
The Crusaders were perhaps unlucky twice when promising attacks were called back for forward passes. On the second occasion midfielder Casey Laulala was through for the line.
A big defensive effort featured from both sides.
The Lions beat another New Zealand side, the Highlanders, 11-6 last weekend and have now scored two wins from three games.
For the Crusaders, it was their second defeat in three games.
SCORING:
Lions 9 (Louis Strydom 3 pen), Crusaders 3 (Stephen Brett pen). Halftime: 3-3.
