One All Black will be putting up his feet this weekend while another will have his head down as he attempts to master a new position.
The Chiefs' penultimate match against the 15th-placed Reds always appeared an opportunity to rest and refresh ahead of the playoffs, with coach Dave Rennie giving Brodie Retallick a week on the sidelines to rest his weary body.
And, as part of the reshuffle to account for the lock's absence, All Black teammate Sam Cane is set to start at No 8 for the first time in Super Rugby.
Rennie stressed the alterations were not a sign of his side taking lightly the Reds' threat, rather a plan focused on the bigger picture. But with the trip to Brisbane coming between two all-Kiwi clashes, the timing of the selection switches was logical.
"He's pretty buggered," Rennie said of Retallick. "He's had a big workload with the All Blacks, and when he plays for us he generally plays 80 minutes, and you know what sort of performance he gives you.
