KEY POINTS:
The Chiefs kept themselves in contention for the Super 14 rugby semifinals when they upset the Crusaders 30-19 in Christchurch tonight.
It was the Chiefs' fifth successive victory and broke the Crusaders' unbeaten run of 26 matches at Jade Stadium dating back to 2004.
The Crusaders salvaged a crucial bonus point through skipper Richie McCaw in the dying seconds from a quick tap penalty. The one point earned from losing by seven or less could ensure his side host a semifinal.
The Chiefs were fifth in the standings before the match and are now equal second with the Sharks on 40 points, two behind the Crusaders.
Although the match was played with intensity and at pace, it never really rose to great heights as both sides made numerous, unforced errors.
Chiefs 30 (Sitiveni Sivivatu 2 tries; Stephen Donald 6 pen, con) Crusaders 24 (Ross Filipo, Richie McCaw tries; Stephen Brett 4 pen, con). Halftime 20-13.
