Chiefs No 8 Kane Thompson is heading back to New Zealand with a neck injury that coach Dave Rennie believes will benefit from a few weeks break.
Thompson, who sustained the injury in the Chiefs' 20-12 win over the Western Force, will be replaced in the squad by Fritz Lee for the upcoming two-match tour of South Africa.
The Chiefs squad will attend the Wellington Phoenix game in Perth tonight to lend their support to their fellow New Zealanders, before flying out to the Republic.
