Highlanders centre Daniel Bowden has received a one-week suspension following a dangerous tackle on Sharks centre Riaan Swanepoel in their Super 14 rugby match in Durban on Saturday.
Bowden, who pleaded guilty to the charge, argued that the yellow card he received at the time was sufficient punishment but Sanzar judicial officer Dekker Govender imposed the one-match suspension.
Bowden will miss the Highlanders' match against the Lions at Johannesburg on Saturday (NZT).
Highlanders' prop Clint Newlands was also cited for striking Sharks prop Tendai Mtawarira in the 12th round match won 23-15 by the Sharks.
He was found not guilty.
