KEY POINTS:
Former All Black Troy Flavell has been reappointed as the Blues' skipper for the upcoming Super 14 rugby competition.
Coach David Nucifora today said there were other options for the captaincy, but retaining Flavell in the post he first occupied last year had been an easy decision.
"He did an outstanding job last season," Nucifora said.
"You only had to look at Troy's performances to see how well the captaincy sat with him."
Nucifora said the experience Flavell picked up last year in leading the Blues to the semifinals augured well for the new campaign.
Flavell, 31, rejoined the Blues in early 2006 after two years in Japan.
The lock/loose forward also made it back into the All Blacks on his return to New Zealand rugby, but was a shock omission from the squad for last year's World Cup.
