Auckland coach Pat Lam says he will be applying for the soon to be vacated coaching position at the Blues, because he feels more than ready to step up to Super 14 level.
David Nucifora has announced he is moving back to Australia at the end of the current season, due to family reasons, after three years with the club.
Lam says no team in the professional era has done what his team did last year in winning the Air New Zealand Cup and Ranfurly Shield so he feels he has proved himself at that level.
Lam says he will apply for the job once it is advertised as it is time for him to get a chance in the Super 14.
He says he feels he is ready to go to the next level as he has already coached at international level with Ian McGeechan at Scotland.
Lam says as a born and bred Aucklander, the Blues job is his perfect Super 14 role.
