It looks like West Australia Rugby will confirm this afternoon that they have secured Waikato coach John Mitchell as their new coach for next year's Super 14.
WA chairman Geoff Stooke says they have been in negotiations with the former All Black coach, trying to sign him to a three-year deal.
Stooke says Mitchell is one of the finest coaches in international rugby, so they will be very fortunate to have him on board.
However, Stooke might have already let the cat out of the bag, saying they have no doubt he is the man for the job.
He was talking with an Australian radio station, saying the make up of the team's coaching structure will be up to "John".
When pushed on the "John" issue, Stooke sidestepped the issue.
A media conference was scheduled in Perth for early this afternoon.
NZRU CEO Chris Moller and Waikato CEO Gary Dawson both say they have had no word or resignation from Mitchell, as yet.
