The Hurricanes will be reminding their players and staff that they need to put their phones on in-flight mode when they are flying.
Coach Chris Boyd revealed some of his players watched the Lions' shock loss to the Jaguares livestreaming while in-flight, breaching rules.
A Hurricanes spokesman said the team took CAA rules seriously.
A CAA spokesman said civil aviation rules prohibit use of transmitting portable electronic devices. Offenders breaching the rules are liable on conviction to a fine of $2500.
However, an airline can apply to CAA for an exemption if they can prove the operation of the devices does not compromise the aircraft safety.
Infringements notices are relatively rare: the CAA has issued only 19 in the last five years.
Just seven of these resulted in a paid fine.
