Blues halfback David Gibson will sit out of the inaugural Super 14 for four to six months with injury.
A scan revealed he has not yet fully healed from neck damage suffered during last year's Super 12.
Blues coach David Nucifora says Gibson has made great progress, but unfortunately is not yet ready to return to the game. He says medical advice is that a second operation is now necessary, which rules Gibson out for the entire Super 14.
Northland halfback John Senio comes into the Blues squad as a replacement.
