Crusader's first five-eighth Daniel Carter strained a knee in last night's 25-19 Super 14 victory over the Chiefs in Hamilton.
The All Black star is expected to be rested for the early part of next week.
Crusaders doctor Tony Page said Carter had strained the joint capsule in the back of his right knee.
The Crusaders are due to play the Cats in Christchurch on Friday.
Dr Page said prop Campbell Johnstone, who missed last night's match with a calf strain, was progressing well but a decision had not yet been made on when he would return.
