The Blues will appeal the six week ban handed down to lock Ali Williams for trampling.
The SANZAR judiciary suspended Williams from the Rebel Sport Super 12 for stamping on Crusaders captain Richie McCaw last week.
Blues CEO David White says they deem the penalty excessive and it may impact on Williams' chances of making the All Blacks.
White also says they are seriously concerned that there is a lack of clarity about the distinction between rucking and stamping.
The appeal hearing will be heard within the next week.
The Blues are not appealing the two week penalties given to David Gibson and Sam Tuitupou for their parts in the same incident.
