George Moala is free to train, play and travel with the Blues until May 1, despite being found guilty last week of assault.
The Blues have decided to wait until the outside back's sentencing date before making a decision, if any is needed, on Moala, whose court case over an incident in December 2012 ended last Friday. No conviction has been entered at this time.
"Since Friday night, we have been assessing the implications of the verdict," said Blues chief executive Michael Redman, "and we've consulted with New Zealand Rugby, the Rugby Players' Association, George's lawyer and the Blues board. We've decided that ... with sentencing yet to occur, the appropriate thing to do is to have George return to the team."
As it stands, Moala will be free to play for the Blues until at least the day before their clash with the Western Force at Eden Park on May 2. Any sentencing decision then may prove a distraction to the franchise ahead of a crucial game.
Questioned about the public reaction, Mr Redman said: "First and foremost, the public would expect us to be even-handed with this, to be a good employer, to take the matter seriously, and obviously we have.
