New Zealand's star first-five Dan Carter has chosen to re-sign with Canterbury, ending weeks of speculation about his future.

Carter was widely tipped to join Auckland, but instead opted to return to the red-and-blacks, saying he was looking forward to playing for the province which has "given my rugby so much."
