Nelson Mandela is not available so the Springboks have enlisted Morne du Plessis, captain of South Africa the last time they beat the All Blacks in Cape Town, as the team's lucky charm ahead of the Tri-Nations clash at Newlands.
Du Plessis, skipper when the Springboks won 15-10 in 1976, has been asked by coach Jake White to present the team jerseys today.
New Zealand have a good record at Newlands where they have lost only twice in seven visits.
On both occasions it was a Du Plessis who captained the Boks, with Morne in 1976 and his dad Felix the first captain to lead the Boks to victory against the All Blacks in 1949.
" ... we have a bit of an omen with Morne in town and we are going to use him," White said.
