LONDON - Scottish Rugby Union (SRU) chairman David Mackay has resigned following a vote of no confidence at a meeting of the governing body's board.
"Clearly, we have been listening to the concerns of the member clubs," SRU president Gordon Dixon said in a statement on Monday.
"The general committee of the Scottish Rugby Union views this as a change of direction and a new beginning, leading to a greater degree of openness."
Accountant Fred McLeod, president of the ruling body in the 1996-97 season, has been appointed interim chairman of Scottish Rugby with immediate effect.
