That's Cory Jane's view after the All Black discard's Hurricanes teammate turned on a three-try masterclass against the French this morning.
Jane was delighted to see his fellow Canes winger burst back to his best after a seriesof indifferent pool match performances and put the return to form down to the All Blacks creating more space for the bullocking flankman to do his best pinball impersonation.
"Jules is good when you give him a bit of room one-on-one with somebody instead of bringing him in close to the rucks and doing the forwards' job," Jane told Newstalk ZB sports host Tony Veitch. "Once he gets put into a little bit of space, he's hard to put down. That one try where he was thumping everyone off, that's Jules when he gets a little bit angry....he showed what Julian Savea can do."
Savea's three tries took him past Jonah Lomu on the All Blacks' all-time tryscoring list and at least one of his touchdowns was compared to Lomu at his best when he skittled the English in the semis of the 1995 World Cup. But Jane felt the Savea touchdown even topped any of Lomu's four tries that day.
"Everyone does compare him to Jonah but the times have changed so much. Defence now, because there's defensive coaches and they spend so much time on defence, to score tries like that nowadays you have to be pretty special."
Jane also lauded the performance of Dan Carter.
"Not only did he control the game well, he got the forwards where he wanted to get them, and the backs into their own space, but he actually ran pretty good as well....that try he set up for Jules, that was the Dan Carter of old. It looks like he's enjoying himself, he's playing with confidence and having a bit of fun."
