KEY POINTS:
If you're going to the World Cup, don't tell the bank manager.
Ticket packages for the quarter-finals, semifinals, and final have all but sold out.
Some, with side trips to popular French regions, cost more than $16,000. But that's only the beginning. To see All Black pool games, add train trips, extra meals and accommodation - the credit card will be under strain.
To see the All Blacks play Italy in Marseille, Portugal in Lyon and Romania in Toulouse you will need a Euro rail pass. That costs a shade over $326 for the three trips inside a month. Tickets to the Marseille game cost €173 for the best seats. That's a bit over $300, and add a few more for a beer at the ground. Drinks prices are not available online but some souvenir prices are there.
Pick up an All Blacks key ring for $11.45 or a World Cup pencil case for $11.80. The Lonely Planet guide has some advice. "Devoted scrimpers can get by on around 50 Euro per day, though it means a whole lot of brie-and-baguettes in the park."
Another option is stay home and get your replica World Cup for $33.90.
