2. Stories of the weekend
The biggest and best results all came on Sunday morning (NZ time). First Japan had their second win of the tournament with another upset, this time overcoming Samoa 26-5.
However, even if the Brave Blossoms beat the USA next Monday morning - which is likely to happen going on their recent performances - they will still need Scotland to lose to Samoa in order to achieve their goal of qualifying for the quarter finals for the first time. A tough ask. But coach Eddie Jones believes whether or not Japan get through, with three wins they would be the team of the tournament.
Meanwhile, South Africa moved to the top of Pool B with their 34-16 win over Scotland. The Springboks still need to beat the USA on Thursday morning to get through to the quarter finals, but should have no problem doing so. Scotland will play Samoa on Sunday to keep their World Cup dreams alive. But of course the story of the weekend was the Wallabies knocking England out of the tournament. The 33-13 defeat at Twickenham caused shockwaves in Britain and throughout the rugby-playing world. As I'm sure you've heard many times by now, England are the first host nation to not make it out of the Rugby World Cup quarter finals. Here's how some of the media reacted to that bombshell.
3. Next games
Canada play Romania on Wednesday at 4.45am (NZ time) at Leicester City Stadium. This will be the last game of the World Cup for Canada, while Romania still has to play Italy. Both sides will be looking for their first win of the tournament.
Winless Fiji will also play their final game of tournament on Wednesday morning, facing off against Uruguay at Stadium MK in Milton Keynes at 8am (NZ time).
The South Americans, after heavy defeats to both Wales and Australia, are yet to play England and will want a win under their belt before coming up against the devastated hosts.
All four teams playing on Wednesday have already been eliminated from the tournament.
4. Five teams book their place in the quarter finals
With England losing to Australia on the weekend, both the Wallabies and Wales automatically progress to the quarter finals from Pool A. Those two teams are yet to play each other to see which team will finish top.
Pool B is still up for grabs, and the All Blacks have booked one of the quarter final spots in Pool C.
France and Ireland are both through to the knock-out stages as well, with both of them sitting on 14 points at the top of Pool D. They will play each other next Monday to see who finishes top.
Meanwhile, hosts England, as well as Fiji, Uruguay, Georgia, Italy, Canada, Romania, Samoa and USA have all been eliminated from the tournament - they cannot make it out of the pool round.
South Africa, Scotland and Japan are still alive and fighting for the two quarter-final spots in Pool B and Argentina, Tonga and Namibia are also still alive in Pool C.
Have a look at the likely, and unlikely, quarter-final match-ups here.

EXTRA TIME
Argentina's 45-16 win over Tonga this morning was overshadowed more than a little bit by a cheering Diego Maradona in the stands. The former football star also joined the Argentine team in the changing room after the game for some celebrating.
