Wallaby coach Michael Cheika has revealed veteran back Matt Giteau gave him a halftime "gobful" after being banned from continuing in the World Cup final.
Giteau staggered about Twickenham after his attempted tackle on All Black lock Brodie Retallick in the 26th minute went horribly wrong. Medical officials ruled Giteau out on concussion grounds.
Cheika told the Sydney Morning Herald: "The medical referee made that decision, that's how he interpreted the situation. Gits gave me a gobful at halftime as to why he was off. But our hands are tied, there's nothing we can do about it.
"He was not happy...they ruled him out within 30 seconds. I'm not sure how that one worked out, but that's the way they did it."
The paper said that Giteau left the field unassisted and appeared to have shaken the symptoms "but let his frustration and emotion out at halftime".
