Former All Black Troy Flavell has cast doubt on France's Rugby World Cup chances.
Flavell, speaking from Bayonne in France, told Radio Sport the French public are excited about the World Cup but remain unconvinced by the current crop of players representing Les Bleus.
"There's a lot of doubt to be honest. The public is a little bit indecisive about the ability of the side and what they can achieve at this year's World Cup," he said.
"They weren't particularly impressive on the weekend [against Japan]."
Flavell was more upbeat about the All Blacks' chances this year.
The 22-cap former lock said he would have liked to see Richard Kahui stay on the right wing for the match against Japan, but said players like Andy Ellis will get a chance to shine in Hamilton this Friday.
"I think this is the last week for the selectors where they can afford to make these changes."
Flavell is training for the League versus Rugby Fight for Life in December. He saw the hysteria surrounding Sonny Bill Williams' shirt-ripping moment against Tonga, but assured Radio Sport he wouldn't be able to emulate the All Black's physique.
"I've never had a six pack, so I can't see that happening!"
