The Rugby Football Union will benefit to the tune of $NZ32 (£15million) from the surplus made by the Rugby World Cup, it has been announced.
Stephen Brown, managing director of organisers England 2015, said it had exceeded the revenue target of $NZ570m (£250m) which covers the $NZ182m (£80m) it must pay to World Rugby - leaving an extra $NZ34m (£15m) for England's Rugby Football Union.
Brown said: 'From England 2015's perspective this had been a huge success.
'This was a tournament of record attendances and sell-out matches. Wembley twice broke the record for the biggest ever Rugby World Cup attendance.
'We have had over one million people through 15 fanzones. They've had huge support from the cities and we've been very grateful for that.'
Some 2.47million tickets were sold - 98 per cent of the venues' capacity.
