Scotland edging out Samoa yesterday eliminated the plucky Japanese from the tournament who became the first ever side to win three games and fail to advance to the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, South Africa progress atop the pool to advance to probably the tastiest quarter-final of them all, against the Welsh.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
It was never really in doubt that the All Blacks and Argentina would progress in first and second respectively. The All Blacks will now face France for the fifth straight time Rugby World Cup, their sixth meeting over that time. Argentina face Ireland in the quarter-finals, a side the Pumas haven't beaten since the 2007 World Cup pool play. Since then Ireland have won the last five clashes.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
Ireland topped the group after a pretty convincing win over France in Cardiff this morning, however they will be counting the injury toll with Jonny Sexton, Paul O'Connell and Keith Earls all injured. Ireland will face Argentina on Monday. France now head to Cardiff to meet the All Blacks on Sunday. Italy finished third after beating Romania overnight.
