KEY POINTS:
LONDON - Wales back-row forward Ryan Jones will miss the Rugby World Cup in September and October because of a shoulder injury, the Welsh Rugby Union said on Friday (NZ time).
The 26-year-old Ospreys captain took the decision after consulting specialists over his damaged left shoulder on Wednesday.
Jones, who underwent an exploratory operation on the shoulder earlier in July, said in a statement on the WRU website (www.rfu.co.uk): "Although the shoulder is stable I received some new damage to the joint throughout this season which needs time to settle.
"I need to take a long-term view and make sure it's right before I play and that means missing out on the World Cup," added the number eight, who has 15 caps for his country.
