KEY POINTS:
EDINBURGH - South Africa captain John Smit, who has not played since injuring his hamstring against Australia on June 16, will miss Sunday's (NZ time) rugby World Cup warm-up match against Scotland in Edinburgh.
Smit was not among the 22 named on Friday although he travelled with the team on their two-match trip to Ireland and Scotland.
He was withdrawn from the side to play Namibia in Cape Town on August 15 at the last minute because of hamstring problems.
The team will be led by lock Victor Matfield.
Only wing JP Pietersen, No.8 Danie Rossouw and pivot Butch James are retained from the starting lineup who beat Connacht 18-3 in Ireland on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, wing Akona Ndungane has been sent home for medical treatment, the South African Rugby Union announced.
Ndungane was injured in the victory over Connacht.
A statement said Ndungane had been sent to Cape Town for further scans and treatment after bruising chest muscles.
