JOHANNESBURG - Prop forward Os du Randt, whose adopted first name means 'Ox', has been invited along with his fellow Springboks to the ritual slaughter of one of his namesakes to mark South Africa's World Cup win.
The Xhosa royal household said it wanted to extend its gratitude towards the squad who had made the whole country proud.
"The whole team needs to visit the Great Place (in the Eastern Cape) to have oxen slaughtered for them in celebration," household spokesman Prince Xhanti Sigcawu told Tuesday's edition of the East London-based Daily Dispatch.
Rugby, he said, was "one of the most beloved and played sports in rural areas" so "we invite the team and their managers to come and celebrate the achievement with us."
Du Randt, who is to retire after Sunday's victory over England, is the only Springbok to become a double World Cup winner after also appearing in the 1995 final against New Zealand.
