Australian backrower Richard Brown is due to undergo shoulder surgery which will rule him out of this year's Rugby World Cup.
The 23-test veteran dislocated his right shoulder early last year but decided to play on, appearing for the Wallabies in the Tri-Nations and on their end-of-year tour to Europe.
Brown was disappointed but said the surgery was essential for ensuring his fitness for next year and beyond.
