KEY POINTS:
If he's required to fill in at lock during the All Blacks' game against Portugal, Carl Hayman won't be straying into foreign territory.
The man rated the world's best tighthead prop is on the reserves bench for the expected romp against the Portuguese at Lyon's Stade Gerland, and his brief includes being a back-up lock to senior test pair Chris Jack and Ali Williams.
Coach Graham Henry said Hayman could do the job "at a stretch", but Hayman, with 42 tests behind him since his 2001 debut, is unfazed if he happens to be needed.
"I was a lock at school, so it's not completely unknown territory for me," Hayman, 27, said.
But jumping in the lineout? Saturday's props won't fancy hefting the 120kg, 1.93m Hayman skywards, but he reckons that won't be necessary.
"There are plenty of good loose forwards who can jump out there."
The All Black bench comprises two hookers (Anton Oliver and Keven Mealamu) and two props (Hayman and Tony Woodcock), with Henry explaining that the big men need game time more than the backs or loose forwards.
