KEY POINTS:
MONTEVIDEO - Portugal qualified for their first rugby World Cup despite losing 18-12 to Uruguay in the second leg of their playoff on Saturday.
Portugal sneaked through 24-23 on aggregate courtesy of their 12-5 win in Lisbon two weeks ago, denying the South Americans a third successive World Cup appearance.
Portugal will play in Group C alongside favourites New Zealand, Scotland, Italy and Romania.
Duarte Cardoso Pinto converted four penalties, scoring all of Portugal's points.
Uruguay's task was made harder when lock Juan Bado was sent off after only two minutes.
The first half ended 6-6 as Juan Menchaca and Diego Aguirre converted Uruguay's penalties.
Second-half tries from Ignacio Crosa and captain Rodrigo Capo were not enough for the hosts, who went 18-12 ahead in the 50th minute but could not find the extra two points.
