KEY POINTS:
So who's the best winger in world rugby?
Waikato folk will put up a strong argument for Sitiveni Sivivatu, a player who can find ways to score tries most others wouldn't.
An hour and a half north, there are those who reckon at his best Joe Rokocoko, all power and speed, takes some beating. And Doug Howlett's three-try burst in the All Blacks' 76-14 belting of Italy in their opening World Cup game restated his case for consideration, making him the joint alltime top tryscorer with 46, level with Christian Cullen.
Across the Tasman, you'll find Aussies who reckon Lote Tuqiri in prime form is the pick of the crop.
All fine wingers, but Springbok left winger Bryan Habana is The Man of the moment.
How South African fullback Percy Montgomery was named man of the match in their 57-7 win over Samoa at Parc des Princes in Paris today is fit for one of Rove's 'What The!' exclamations.
Okay Montgomery got two tries and totalled 29 points, but Habana was the star turn.
He has a reputation is some parts as a fast guy with a knack for interceptions. And he is in the same way Beethoven knew how to knock up a decent tune. But Habana is much more than that, as his four tries today showed.
Blessed with blistering pace, Habana turned on the style with a quartet as classy as they were varied.
His first was perhaps his best, and it came at a critical stage of the match, with the Springboks only 9-7 up seven minutes before halftime and Samoan their tails up. Given some room to move, he jagged this way and that for about 40 metres, wriggling his way out of tackles before stretching out to the tryline.
For his second, he had to beat four defenders on a more direct run which showed his determination and pace.
The third was down to quick thinking. South Africa got a penalty near the Samoan line. Habana grabbed the ball, sprinted up to the mark, tapped it to himself and, catching the defence napping, had just enough momentum up to dot the ball down.
His final try 4min from the finish was the most straightforward. Given an overlap, sheer speed in a 35m run down the lefthand touch did the business, a classic finisher's try.
And there might have been a fifth in the last moment, but the pass to Habana was ruled forward.
Top tryscorer at the World Cup? Others will fancy their chances, but wise money would be put on the 24-year-old Bulls dazzler.
