Rugby: Bergamasco given two-week club ban for trip

MARSEILLE - Italy back Mirco Bergamasco was banned for two weeks of club matches on Wednesday after being found guilty of tripping Scotland's Dan Parks in last Saturday's rugby World Cup pool C match in St Etienne.

Bergamasco escaped punishment at the time but was later cited and Wednesday's hearing ruled that the trip was deliberate.

Italy lost the match 18-16 to exit the tournament and since Bergamasco will not return to his club, French champions Stade Francais, until October 8, the ban will run from then until October 21.
