Unquestionably the most exciting back at this year's World Cup, Israel Dagg has usurped Mils Muliaina as New Zealand's first-choice fullback. The Hawke's Bay flyer was mesmeric in New Zealand's 37-17 defeat of France in the pool stages and played a leading hand in New Zealand's semifinal defeat of Australia.
Dagg glided though the Wallabies' defence to set up Ma'a Nonu for the opening and decisive try while demonstrating his excellent tactical awareness and positioning without the ball. Alongside the outstanding Cory Jane, Dagg dealt with Australia's offensive kicking game with aplomb.
