KEY POINTS:
Resource consent has been granted for the redevelopment of the eastern stand at the newly renamed AMI Stadium in Christchurch.
Consent hearings for the planned $60 million redevelopment at the former Jade Stadium took place in April. The matter has since been in the hands of Christchurch City Council appointed commissioner David Collins.
The stadium now has the go-ahead for a new three level eastern stand to replace the existing 1, 2 and 3 stands, which are about 50 years old.
This will bring AMI Stadium's permanent capacity to 41,000, with room for about 10,000 temporary seats in time for the Rugby World Cup in 2011. The granting of the consent is subject to a 15 day appeal period.
