All Black captain Richie McCaw will run out for his 100th game on Saturday, becoming the first New Zealander to crack the century mark.
He came into the Rugby World Cup tournament as the most experienced All Black captain with 62 tests under his belt as skipper almost three times more than Sean Fitzpatrick who captained the 1995 All Blacks on the back of 22 games in charge.
The increased number of test matches played in the professional era obviously works in McCaw's favour but the below graph shows that previous All Black captains at World Cups had minimal experience in the role.
It didn't matter for David Kirk who had played only 10 tests total before the successful 1987 campaign.
