Craig Joubert fall-out: Scots want referee banned after squad's defeat to Australia

Angry Scottish rugby fans have launched a petition to have referee Craig Joubert banned from Scotland for life.

The South African referee caused controversy when he awarded a last-minute penalty to Australia, which resulted in a match-winning kick from Bernard Foley that took the score to 35-34.

The penalty was awarded for an accidental offside and although Scottish skipper Greig Laidlaw called for a Television Match Official review, rugby's rules prevented it happening.

Joubert also came under fire for sin-binning Scotland's winger Sean Maitland earlier in the second half for a deliberate knock-on. There was further outrage when the referee exited the field promptly at the end of the match, reportedly without stopping to shake players' hands.

He was also nearly hit by a bottle thrown by an angry fan in the crowd at Twickenham.
The petition on change.org, seeks to "Ban Craig Joubert from Scotland for life" and has already attracted 856 supporters, 144 away from its goal of 1000 signatures.

The petition was launched shortly after the game ended. Joubert's Wikipedia page was also altered to read: "South African professional rugby union referee who hates the Scotland National Rugby Union".
