There will be plenty of sore heads today as Kiwis wake from a night of celebrations, but excited All Black fans are now being urged to try to stay calm - and to be humble when dealing with grieving Australians.
That's the message from clinical psychologist Barry Kirker, who says it's important to enjoy this week's build-up to the big Rugby World Cup final, but remember there is still plenty of work to be done before complete victory is ours. "I think people will be happy [today] but they know the job is not done yet. We are always nervous playing the French."
Mr Kirker urged people still celebrating last night's win to try to be humble when dealing with Australians this week. "Try and be understanding, they will be hurting."
While he knows it's going to be a big week, he said other important advice for excited fans included trying to keep going about daily routines as much as possible - including not drinking too much.
"If you are going to have a big one, save it until after the final and the good thing about the final is we have got a public holiday the next day, Labour Day, so you can have a big one really."
Mr Kirker said the buoyant mood this week might even have some positive spinoffs in that people would get more done.
"People are going to be in good spirits, they might get a bit more work done, be a bit more energised which is good ... they might get a few more things done, tackle those tricky projects they have been putting off because they have got a bit more spring in their step."
He believed there would be some stress in the days before the final, but probably not as much as in the buildup to last night's game.
"I think that was the game everyone was worried about. I think people will be a little bit nervous about [Sunday] but nowhere near as nervous as they were during the weekend just gone. I think the mood will be pretty good."
But, he also warns that people need to be prepared in case things don't go our way on Sunday. "Have some reasons [excuses] in that back of your mind why the All Backs could lose the final, i.e, injuries, the French are not easy-beats."
ADVICE FROM A PRO
Enjoy the buildup to the final:
* Try not to gloat too much, especially around Australians.
* Ensure you get a good sleep on Saturday night.
* Have some fun before the game, and get some exercise.
* Enjoy the buildup and the whole experience, including getting to any fan zone or place set up for the World Cup that you have not yet visited.
* Remind yourself of the reasons New Zealand are the favourites: We have not lost at Eden Park for a long time, it's a home game, we've not lost in this tournament, we have more depth than opponents, better team, etc.
