KEY POINTS:
As a contest, the World Cup final between South Africa and England was great, but as a final it wasn't up to much.
South Africa deservedly got its name on the Cup but if you are talking about matches you would have to say that the Argentina-France game was much better to watch.
Argentina, who scored five tries, had a fitting reward for their World Cup and for Augustin Pichot, who had to be one of the players of the tournament.
I just hope Argentina can carry on from this great result because a lot of their players will retire now.
But after South Africa's success, the big question has to be what is going to happen to Jake White, the winning coach?
His contract was set to run for another couple of years if he won the World Cup, but the position has already been advertised.
He had a lot more to contend with than most of the other coaches preparing for the World Cup with all the political intrigue that was going on in the background, so that makes his success all the more notable.
He was aware of what was going on and just seemed to take the approach of carrying on and doing his own thing.
He will probably end up coaching somewhere in Britain.
There is no doubt that France staged a great tournament. Its people got behind it and they had great stadiums filled to capacity for all manner of games.
That is going to make it very hard for New Zealand to follow up in 2011.
I can't see how the number of teams in the tournament can be cut back from 20 to 16.
The lesser nations measured up well. I was impressed with the way the likes of Georgia and Portugal played. They need something to strive for to continue to improve their game and cutting them out of the World Cup would not be helpful.
You can't take that sort of incentive away from them especially when they came through so extremely well.
You would have to say that Argentina headed the teams that did better than expected. Scotland went better than most thought they would while England, in the end, did too.
The most disappointing sides were obviously New Zealand, Australia and France while Ireland was shocking.
They have all got something to think about before the next World Cup.
