A try in the closing minutes secured a 31-31 draw for South Cantertbury against Horowhenua-Kapiti in a hard-fought Heartland rugby championship match in Levin today.
Winger Malakai Fonua managed a charge down to score and his try was converted by Scott Norton as the southerners grabbed a share of the spoils late.
Horowhenua-Kapiti led throughout most of a roller-coaster affair, including a 21-17 halftime advantage.
However, the visitors were first on the board through Patolo Tupuola although the scores were quickly levelled when Ashley Drake scored the first of two tries.
Eric Smith then scored the first of two for South Canterbury although it was the last time his team would hold the lead.
