Only one third of the seats for the international rugby sevens tournament in Wellington were allocated for public sales, it has been revealed.
Thousands of fans were left disappointed on Tuesday after queuing for hours for tickets to the tournament at Westpac Stadium in February.
Tournament director Steve Dunbar had refused to say how many tickets had been made available to the public.
But yesterday he said "more than 10,000" had been put up for sale with the rest going to rugby clubs, season pass holders, package tour customers, volunteers and less than 10 per cent to corporates and sponsors.
