Scott Curry is set to undergo surgery on his shoulder this week but expects he will be back in time for the Rio Olympics in August.
The All Blacks Sevens captain will go under the knife on Friday, a week after winning the Richard Crawshaw Memorial All Blacks Sevens Player of the Year Award at the New Zealand Rugby Awards.
Curry, 27, faces four to six months on the sidelines after dislocating and damaging ligaments in his shoulder during the HSBC Sevens World Series opener in Dubai at the start of the month.
He said he had been weighing up whether to undergo surgery or go for the riskier option of rehab.
Following talks with family and All Blacks Sevens staff, he said he decided to choose surgery which would still give him enough time to return for the Rio Olympics next August.
