HONG KONG - The all-conquering Australian women's sevens rugby team have added the prestigious Hong Kong title to their World Cup triumph.
The Australians have defeated China 24-7 in the final of the 10-team tournament at the Hong Kong Stadium.
The Aussie women advanced to the decider without conceding a point in their four pool matches, defeating Tunisia 29-0, Singapore 53-0, Guam 57-0 and Arabian Gulf 30-0.
They led China 14-7 at halftime in the final before adding 10 unanswered points after the break.
"In the first half it was tough," said playmaker Bo de la Cruz.
"But at the break, we discussed what was needed, we lifted and came away with the win.
"Our defence earlier in the tournament gave us a fair bit of confidence going into the final and, in the end, it was a pretty good win."
Australia won the IRB Rugby World Cup Sevens trophy for the first time in Dubai earlier this month.
The Australian men's team opened their pool C campaign in Hong Kong with a 33-5 win over Singapore.
