New Zealand's Hong Kong sevens campaign is underway with a 52-nil win over Singapore.
It was a stock standard opening night to the 30th anniversary event, with New Zealand trouncing Singapore eight tries to none, including a hat-trick to Charles Baxter.
The match also signalled the international sevens debuts of Tu Umaga-Marshall and Lachie Munro.
Umaga-Marshall says it has all been a bit of a blur, given he was only in Hong Kong playing in the tens tournament until Craig Hudson was ruled out. He says he was nervous but is just thrilled to wear the black jersey.
Umaga-Marshall has also excelled in basketball at provincial level for the Saints and in league he's trialled for the Brisbane Broncos.
Of the top seeds England, Fiji and South Africa all had big wins but it could not be said that any of the favourites put in a particularly accurate performance.
New Zealand plays Japan and Scotland tonight to complete pool play.
