The International Rugby Board has used the launch of the world sevens series in Dubai to push its case for inclusion at the Olympics.
The Dubai sevens starts tonight, with defending champions New Zealand looking to avenge last year's Dubai final loss to South Africa.
The IOC is to decide the venue for the 2012 summer Games next July.
It is also expected to decide whether to include up to five different sports in the Olympics, including rugby sevens.
