Blues and All Blacks Sevens winger Ben Lam will be out of the rest of the Super Rugby season and the Rio Olympics.
Lam re-ignited a knee injury at training during the week, and scans have confirmed an ACL rupture which will require surgery which will sideline him for six months.
Ben Lam was a key part of Sir Gordon Tietjens' plans with the All Blacks Sevens at the Rio Olympics, and Tietjens says it's a blow.
"It wasn't good news, I can assure you," Tietjens told Matt Brown on Radio Sport's Hash Brown breakfast.
"I would have loved to have kept my players right through from Wellington/Sydney to the completion of the World Series, because to be good at this game you've got to be playing it and training it consistently and you get to measure what the other teams have got as well.
