Rob Andrew has been removed from any direct involvement with the senior England Rugby team.
The former England international, who has been the RFU's director of elite rugby, has come under pressure from several former players and commentators since England's catastrophic quarter-final exit from the World Cup last month.
His position was further weakened by the leak last week of confidential reports into England's World Cup campaign and preparations, which exposed a divisive team and the extent of the squad's drinking culture.
He has been stripped of any role with the senior test team and will instead have responsibility for other representative sides and the relationship with Premiership Rugby, which run the domestic game.
He has also lost responsibility for the senior England rugby team, one of a number of changes announced by the Rugby Football Union at Twickenham, the governing body's headquarters.
