KEY POINTS:
Poverty Bay moved closer to a home semifinal in the Lochor Cup Heartland rugby competition after they disposed off Wairarapa Bush 24-8 in Gisborne today.
After repelling some strong Wairarapa Bush forays, Poverty Bay hit back to five minutes before halftime with two well taken tries.
Hooker Michael Mayhew burst round a ruck 30m from the line and off loadied the ball to No 8 Michael Broadhurst who completed the move.
Just on halftime, second five Coll Campbell ghosted through from the midfield to score close to the uprights.
It seemed that Poverty Bay would romp away after they added 10 points from a converted try and penalty early in the second half but the last 30 minutes lacked any structure because of untidy play by both sides.
Broadhurst got his second try before Wairarapa Bush collected eighth points in the middle section of the second half from a Patrick Harding Rimine penalty and a try to centre Junior Tongia after he charged down a kick.
Scores: Poverty Bay 24 (Michael Broadhurst 2, Coll Campbell tries; Scott Leighton pen, 3 con) Wairarapa bush 8 (Junior Tongia try; Patrick Harding-Rimine pen). Halftime 14-0.
