Two of the unfashionable teams in Counties Manukau club rugby, Waiuku and Bombay, produced a thriller on Saturday, Waiuku scoring in the last minute to win 22-18.
Centre Andrew Thompson was the toast of Waiuku, scoring two tries, including the one that sealed the match.
Prop Tai Vailala and 18-year-old halfback Jason Paul were among Bombay's best in a team who could count themselves unlucky.
Manurewa returned to form with a 22-9 victory over Pukekohe. Mark Todd was the key to Manurewa's win with an outstanding display at openside flanker, while James Carew was Pukekohe's best.
Papakura and Onewhero had scored a try apiece at halftime, with Papakura leading 10-8.
However, Onewhero ran out of the steam in the second half and Papakura added another five tries to run out easy 38-8 winners.
Ardmore Marist continued their good form to win 39-3 over a battling Patumahoe.
