KEY POINTS:
Warren Gatland has re-signed with the Waikato Rugby Union for another two years.
Gatland, who coached Waikato to win the inaugural Air New Zealand Cup competition last year, has extended his contract with the province until the end of 2009.
WRU chief executive Gary Dawson said Gatland's re-signing was fantastic news for Waikato.
" We all know that Warren is an internationally recognised coach of the finest calibre and his services are in huge demand overseas. To retain his expertise is wonderful for our province as he has made a huge contribution to developing rugby in the Waikato."
Gatland said it was Waikato's goal to continue to be the leading provincial team in New Zealand and he wanted to be part of that process.
" I want to commit myself to New Zealand rugby for the next two years and would obviously look to coach at a higher level in New Zealand if that opportunity arises."
Gatland, 43, was appointed Waikato coach in 2005, when they finished seventh in the old NPC first division.
The former Waikato and All Blacks representative was head coach of Ireland and coached English club London Wasps to three English premiership titles as well as European Cup success in 2004.
