MARCOUSSIS, France - France captain Fabien Pelous has been ruled out of the Six Nations rugby championship because of an ankle injury.
"Fabien had further medical tests yesterday (Monday). Doctors said he would have to rest for three weeks," team manager Jo Maso told reporters today.
"It means he will not play in the championship because even if he has recovered for our last game, he will be out of form," he added.
After hosting Wales on Saturday, France travel to Twickenham on March 11 and host Scotland the following Saturday.
Pelous, who is one cap short of the French record of 111 appearances held by former centre Philippe Sella, sprained his left ankle during a Heineken Cup match against the Llanelli Scarlets in December.
He did not play when France defeated Italy 39-3 and Ireland 20-17 in their first two games of the Six Nations and has been replaced as captain by Wasps hooker Raphael Ibanez.
